STREET FUN AND FOOD FEST
Thursday 29th June
6.00pm - 8.30pm.

Come down to the village centre and join in
the celebratory beginning of the Festival. As
usual there will be a feast to suit all tastes,

Lymm and the surrounding areas, and plenty
of entertainment as well. Look out for the ‘Big Picture’ being created in front of your eyes, and see if you can guess what it is!
(More details in the Exhibition section)
With food stalls lining the street, the Cross will turn into a giant street café, giving everyone a chance to try all the different culinary experiences on offer. This year the entertainment will be provided by Maynard Flipflap, returning after a couple of years to astonish and amaze with his particular kind of mayhem and madness. Beware, the eggs used in his act may not be for cooking!
Eat your way across the world, tasting traditional English fare as well as far away Cantonese and Thai, and many delicacies from countries in between.
Participating food outlets include: Baci - pizzas • Bhaji’s - Indian snacks • Chilli Club - Thai food • Ash Farm, Dunham Massey - Home made ice cream • Hopkinson’s Butchers - barbecue • Hopkinson’s Deli - delicatessen delicacies • Joy King - Cantonese specialities • Lymm Bar Bistro - tapas • Sahib Indian Restaurant - Indian dishes • French Crepes - continental tasters • Sexton’s Bakery - traditional British fare

£17.00 per head. Pre-booking essential.

The beautiful and secluded gardens of Lymm Hall are once again the setting for the Festival Picnic. The Cottrill family, residents of the fine 17th century house, have generously offered their grounds for one of the most popular events of the Festival. Compered by the inimitable Jim Hancock, BBC North West’s political correspondent, the evening will be a relaxed and sociable mix of music and dining. Guests are encouraged to take a turn around the garden and discover some of its fascinating features, as well as enjoying the fine music.
This year the entertainment will be provided by a group of young talented musicians (to be confirmed) playing a selection of music to listen and dine to, and the Cinnamon Club Swing Band from Bowdon will set the feet tapping as they play two sets from their extensive repertoire. A little Sinatra, some Louise Jordan jump jive, and some classic dance tunes featuring one of thebest saxophonists in the UK. Iain Dixon has played with Michael Brecker, Brian Ferry and Simply Red. Jeremy Sassoon on keyboard and Paul Bentley on vocals drive the music forward. Look out for some special guests in set two.
Bring a picnic and liquid refreshment and dine in any style you wish.
NB: Barbecues of any kind are strictly forbidden. There will be restrictions on the number of
gazebos and where they are placed. Only authorised personnel are allowed into the grounds
before 7.00pm. Event Code 01
Please be aware that the house and grounds are a family home and, therefore, treat the place with respect. All litter from your picnic should be removed.
SCARECROW TRAIL
To view from Monday 26th June
All around Lymm. £5.00 registration fee.
Deadline for entries Thursday 22nd June.
Trail maps and quiz sheets £1.00,
available Monday 26th June from the Festival Box Office, Stephanie’s and Rush Green Services
They’re here again! And hopefully more of them than ever! The increasingly popular scarecrow trail will enliven the highways and by-ways of Lymm for the duration of the Festival, and as usual there will be prizes for the best entry, and also for the quiz.
This year there is no special theme so let your imagination run riot, and have fun creating a character to join the army of scarecrows who will patiently pose for us to view. Tour the scarecrow sites and see if you can identify them all. You could be in for a prize!
Entry forms will be at Rushgreen Service Station, Stephanie’s the Florist, the Library, or can be downloaded from the Festival website www.lymmfestival.org.uk
The prize giving will be after Morning Stories on Sunday 9th July, at 12 noon, in the Sunken
Garden, or in the Village Hall if wet.

Art in the Garden has been one of the great successes of the Festival with its unique combination of outstanding work by local artists, designers, potters and sculptors, set in the beautiful canal-side gardens of Leckonby Cottage. The theme again is diversity and inclusiveness. Many of the works will have been created especially for the event at workshops run in the weeks leading up to the Festival. Others will draw upon the rich vein of creativity in local groups, Risley Prison and schools – featuring works from the recent “Flights of the Mind” project in Warrington. The work of professional artists will also be on view.
On Sunday 2nd July, between 12 noon and 4.00pm, visitors of all ages will be encouraged to work with artist Paul Bearman, making their own exhibits out of a multitude of materials, and leaving them on show or taking them home.
With home-baking and teas on hand, what betterway to spend a summer’s afternoon?
*Access to Leckonby Cottage garden is via the canal towpath close to Brookfield Road Bridge, or up the driveway of 11 Whitbarrow Road. Pedestrian access only, except for disabled visitors for whom special arrangements can be made by phoning 01925 754080.
School groups and sketching groups should also contact the number above.
O’YE! O’YE! O’YE!
Festival Town Crier competition
Saturday 8th July.
10.30am Meet at Village Hall for Draw
11.00am Ist round of competition at the Dingle (follow path beside Lower Dam)
12 noon 2nd round of competition in Beer Garden of the Spread Eagle,
Eagle Brow followed by lunch and prize giving.
The village of Lymm is very fortunate to have the services of its own Town Crier, currently Peter J Powell who has held the post since 1994. To celebrate this traditional and very special role, the Festival is playing host to a competition to which several Town Criers will be invited from all over the country. They will perform, each dressed in his own unique costume, two rounds of ‘Cries’ which will be judged according, among other things, to their clarity, content, entertainment value, and volume.
Join the competitors and their consorts as they draw for the order in which they will compete, and then follow them up to the Dingle (between the upper and lower Dam) to hear the first round. This will be on the subject of their own home town or village. The second round will then take place in the pretty beer garden at the back of the Spread Eagle. This round will be on a given topic.
Peter Powell is not just well known for his ringing tones in Lymm. He is a member of the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers and the Loyal Company of Town Criers, and has competed very successfully since 1996 in many parts of the UK, Europe and Canada. He has also been invited to cry in the USA and Japan.
LIGHT HEARTED LEAPS
A collaboration between residents of Cotebrook House, Keate House
and the children of two Lymm Primary Schools.
Celebratory social events to be held during Festival week.
Times to be confirmed.
This will be the culmination of a series of workshops at which young children, disabled adults and the elderly will exchange memories and experiences, using movement and music, much of which will be recorded on film.
Local dance artist Jan Halloran and colleague Ruth Spencer will join forces with Lymm-based musician Carmel Clowes in exploring the intergenerational relationship between these two age groups, and finish by hosting celebratory tea parties, where some of the participants’ own materials (writings, photographs, drawings etc.) will be on display. These events are open to everyone.
Lymm Festival is delighted to include this project in the programme. There are always groups within the community who are unable to participate as fully as they would wish, and it is hoped that this kind of inclusive event will be followed by others.
The project is dependent on a successful bid for funding from Awards for All.
