NB: Friends 2 for 1

The nationally acclaimed Oddsocks Productions returns for the third year by popular request. Bringing their magical pageant wagon to provide their stage and all the scenery they need, they will give their very special version of one of Shakespeare’s most enduring comedies. Taking one very fresh, attractive but ruthless, bounty-hunting rogue, and introducing him to a wild, dangerous and opinionated woman, could spell trouble. Stir in a large helping of music, song, slapstick and comedy, and add a dash of pre-nuptial tension and a host of comedy characters, the chances are there will an explosive mix that no other couple can match. Despite their best efforts, Oddsocks still manages to let Shakespeare shine through, and it is an excellent introduction to his work for children aged 7 and over.

Lymm Festival are delighted to be welcomed to the grounds of Cotebrook House and wish to thank the residents and staff for their hospitality. Event code 24

MONDAY 3RD JULY
DYLAN THOMAS IN AMERICA by Gwynne Edwards
Old Garbo Productions. Upstairs at the Spread, Spread Eagle Hotel, Eagle Brow, Lymm
8.00pm. £7.00. Bar facilities

What were the thoughts flying through Dylan Thomas’ anguished mind, shortly before his death in America in 1953? This stunning one-man show draws on the letters written by the poet during his tours of the USA that offered him both fame and ultimate tragedy. During the course of the performance, the many conflicts which dogged him throughout his life are explored; the dinner parties at which he entertained with his outrageous wit; his gregarious bonhomie; his despondent moments of self-doubt; insights into his own uncertainty in his love life. Dylan constantly tortures himself with memories of Wales and an unending internal debate as to whether he should be an actor or a writer. The play culminates in his untimely death as he kills himself with a massive whisky binge. Old Garbo Productions are based in South Wales. Directed by Helen Veale, this performance is given by Peter Read who won excellent reviews for the production at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“Peter Read as Thomas is exemplary, gradually uncovering over the course of an hour a performance beautifully nuanced in both delivery and movement” (Gary Woodward – Edinburgh Guide)

THURSDAY 6TH AND FRIDAY 7TH JULY
25 YEARS STICKING YOUR HAND UP A TEDDY BEAR’S BOTTOM
Upstairs at the Spread, Spread Eagle Hotel, Eagle Brow, Lymm.
8.00pm. £7.00 (half the proceeds will be donated to charity). Bar facilities

Lymm resident Peter Corbett, (aka Matthew Corbett), spent 25 years of his life being “The Man behind SOOTY”. Like his father Harry before him, Peter was best friend, mentor and manipulator of Britain’s favourite TV puppet. In his audio/visual talk, Peter transports you back to 1948 (when it all began)
and you learn how a one foot square of yellow mohair became a British institution and the longest running TV show in the world, (earning Harry Corbett the OBE on the way)

This is a trip down memory lane for many, an enlightening history lesson for some and just a good laugh for others. But, beware, whilst Sooty and Co were characters aimed at children, some of the anecdotes and ‘out takes’ from the TV shows are FAR FROM SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN! You have been warned! So it’s IZZY WIZZY LET’S GET BUSY! Have a magical night!
