Rambling Weekend

The venue for this year's Rambling Weekend was the Queen's Hotel, Llandudno.

Nineteen old students of various ages and infirmities indulged in a range of activities in addition to walking.

The main walk on the Saturday was from a small lay-by on the outskirts of Trefriw, up through the wooded hillside, across to the far side of Llyn Crafnant and then on to the gated road along the shore of Llyn Geirionydd and via Llanrhychwyn back to 'base'. A distance of approximately nine miles. The seven milers joined the this route at Lake Crafnant.

Meanwhile, those who opted for a much shorter walk, gathered at Lake Crafnant car park for a three mile walk around the lake, leaving Peter Dutton landscape painting on the lake shore and in a position to offer encouragement to the main group as they passed by.

The beautiful scenery and fresh air were appreciated by all. Impromptu natural history lessons were held on the west shore of Lake Crafnant when a migration of dozens of toads to their breeding grounds was witnessed.

The nine and seven milers ate their packed lunches in a sheltered copse between the two lakes, while the rest repaired to The Old Ship Inn in Trefriw, where much to their delight, they found the 'potterers' who had spent the morning in Conwy.

On Sunday the weather began to deteriorate but old students still found time to visit Bodnant Gardens, the R.S.P.B. reserve at Conwy, craft centres or friends in the Llandudno area.

Garden Visits

This year we have introduced a programme of garden visits designed to provide an alternative activity for those old students who are no longer able to participate in the monthly rambles. Anyone interested in gardens is welcome to join us. Please contact one of the co-ordinators if you would like further information. If you need a written reply please include a stamped addressed envelope.
