Lymm Dickensian Christmas

9th December 2000

The Warrington Juvenile Pipe Band started the 15th Dickensian Festival in the village centre at 11am.

After last year's rain everyone has been praying for better weather for this Dickensian but alas the forecast was very pessimistic. A pale and watery sun shone from time to time on the event this year, making everyone's efforts well worthwhile.

The various stalls were under cover this year in the Youth club, Maple Lodge and Methodist Hall, as well as those who braved the weather in the village centre.

The vintage cars were displayed at the Church Green Public House, Car Park after they took part in the Grand Parade that went through the village centre at 1.30pm.

The Woman's Institute choir was singing at the United Reform Church in the morning and Lymm Concert band played there in the afternoon.

The children enjoyed the fair ground attractions in the village centre especially the Punch & Judy Show.

The Bollin and Stamford Morris Dancers livened up the village centre with a colourful and entertaining display.

The Childrens Fancy Dress Competition was a group event this year, the prize went to Statham County Primary School.

A big thank you to all the organisers of the Dickensian for a fantastic day, and thanks to the Police for controlling crowds and traffic.
