This year’s event will be held on 13th April, Easter Monday.
The race will begin at 12.00 with attractions and refreshments in the village from 10.30am till 4.00pm. The Round Table Duck Race will now be an all day event, held wholly in the Dingle and the village with Duck tickets only available in the village centre, so there is no need for anyone to visit the Upper Dam (A56). The race will be launched from within the Dingle – spectators should look out for an 8 foot long, bright yellow MegaDuck! The whole race can be seen from the Dingle which is signposted from the village centre and spectators are requested to avoid the A56 altogether. The village centre will be closed to road traffic for the day until around 5.00pm, car parks will all be open as usual.
The race is part of the Lymm event calendar and raises funds purely for charitable and local community causes. Previous beneficiaries have included Children’s Adventure Farm, Warrington MENCAP, NSPCC, St Rocco's Hospice and Riding for the Disabled.
Lymm & District Round Table are hoping that the local primary schools will be able to take part in this year’s event with activities such as ‘Hook a Duck’, egg hunts and Easter bonnet competitions. Various Fairground rides will also be there for younger children. Food and soft drinks will be available throughout the day.
The race which starts at noon will include hundreds of ‘racing’ ducks (£1 per ticket) and a selection of larger ‘corporate’ ducks being sponsored by local businesses (£30 per duck). There will also be around 15 special “Superducks” at £60 each which proved to be a great success at last year’s race. The first place prize for the racing ducks is £100. Other prizes will also be available including one for the slowest duck! Many of the prizes are kindly contributed by local businesses.
Tickets for the racing ducks are available on the day from 10.30 in the village centre. To avoid the rush though, tickets will also be available from the Cross on the two Saturday mornings prior to the race. Anyone wishing to donate prizes or sponsor a duck should contact Rik Wilson on 01925 751683.
